KIT started the project "Summer of Code for Society" (SoC4S) that wants to bring student developers into open source projects. The main focus are projects for public and non-profit organizations such as museums or schools. Students can either apply to existing project ideas or propose projects based on their own ideas. SoC4S funded by the Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst Baden-Württemberg with 85,000 €. The project is managed by ARE's Prof. Anne Koziolek and Jan Keim.
